Grammar Rules — Direct & Indirect Speech

Exclamatory Sentences express sudden feelings of joy, sorrow, or wonder (आश्चर्य, दुःख या ख़ुशी दर्शाने वाले वाक्य।). Said changes to exclaimed with joy/sorrow/wonder. Connective is "that".

Optative Sentences express wishes, prayers, or desires (शुभकामनाएं, प्रार्थना या इच्छा दर्शाने वाले वाक्य।). Said changes to wished or prayed. e.g., "May you live long" -> prayed that he might live long.

Convert exclamation structures into standard sentences by removing exclamatory words like Alas, Hurrah, Wow, and replacing with phrases like very/great.

Practice Examples — वाक्य संरचना उदाहरण

He said, "Hurrah! We won." | He exclaimed with joy that they had won.
The saint said, "May you succeed." | The saint prayed that he might succeed.
She said, "Alas! I failed." | She exclaimed with sorrow that she had failed.
